“In the beginning was the road….” Prof. Karlheinz Blaschke (Historian, 1927-2020)

 

The historical cultural and trade route VIA REGIA has been certified as a cultural route of the Council of Europe since 2005. It crosses Europe from west to east over 4500 km and takes its course from Santiago de Compostela (SP) to Kiev (UK).

The historical VIA REGIA was not only the road of trade and change but it was a magistral of cultural exchange, education and communication. The importance of the VIA REGIA as a European cultural route and European network is increasing again in modern times.
